Extended Arms or Legs - Justin Deprisco

Tools Needed:

  • Saw (or Dremel)
  • Superglue
  • Glue Accelerator
  • Two Straight Edges (I use emery boards.)
  • Sprue pieces
  • Tweezers
  • Knife or Wire Cutters

I prefer to use an X-acto saw blade rather than a Dremel for cutting small pieces like this.  You have more control, thus achieving a cleaner – and safer- cut.  The blades fit the “C” handle but can be used without it.

For my example, I am using an Alpha Male j-pop (thigh)

Step 1

Cut leg in half (Fig. A) and glue the piece with the narrowest flat edge (Fig. B and C) to your table.

Step 2

Glue desired length of sprue to other half of leg. (Fig. D)  Use accelerator.

Step 3

Line up leg pieces using straight edges.  (Fig. E)

Place a drop of glue at the connection and spray with accelerator.

Step 4

Carefully remove finished piece from table using wire cutters.  (Fig. F)

Step 5

Cut second leg in half and glue corresponding pieces together.  (Fig. G)  Attach sprue (Tweezers come in handy if your fingers are too big.)  with glue and accelerator.  (Separate the two finished pieces with knife blade or wire cutters.)

And that’s all there is.  Fill in the gaps with Sculpey, epoxy or whatever material you prefer.

Though it may seem like a lot of steps are involved, this is a very simple technique that is easily mastered.  These two pieces took me about 5 minutes to create.

Notice that I did not specify the need to glue the sprue extensions in straight; they don’t have to be.
