How do I make very fine lines on my custom, like those on Spiderman's outfit?
There are several ways to make fine lines on your custom. One of the simpler ways is to use a "Pigment Pen" or fine tipped ink pen and simply draw your lines over top of your dried paint. Other customizers take a very small paint brush and simply paint the lines on as thinly as the brush allows. For ink or pigment pens, a ".005" or ".05" size is about the width necessary for the lines in a Spiderman costume. The ".005" is smaller than the ".05" pen. Ink Pen: Allows very fine lines to be easily drawn onto a figure. Usually only available in black. Tends to run when a protective clear coat is applied too thickly. Pigment Pen: Micron or Zag brand pens work well. Allows very fine lines to be drawn onto a figure. Does not always write as dark as ink and sometimes takes two or more applications. Comes in blue, red, green and black, although I have only used the black. Paint Brush: Allows you to use any color you can make with your paints. Depending on the paint color and thickness you may have to apply several layers. Exacto Knife: Richard Newman emailed to let me know that he uses the tip of an exacto blade, dipped in paint, to get ultra-fine lines of any color. "You may have to lightly dip the tip of the blade in the paint a few times to make an entire line, but if you just lightly dip the knife edge in and don't get too much on the end of the blade ( it shouldn't look like a blob on the end of the blade, it should appear more like the blade itself is the color of the paint), you can draw very fine lines."
